Music for my Mood: Absolutely depleted of all

I have found on occassion that I need to smack the bottom of the pool pretty hard with my face before I realise that there is indeed a ladder to climb up and out.  This song helps in moments such as these.

The Lonely Sea and The Sky at The Troubadour

Apparently this was their stage debut and the last time they played was in someones backyard.  For three ‘stage virgins’ The Lonely Sea and The Sky found their feet pretty damn quick.

Velociraptor at the troubadour

Someone said “nine”, but I’m pretty sure I counted ten.  Nine guys, one girl or eight guys, one girl make up this loud, aurally complex sound called Velociraptor.  They rocked out so hard that Everett True (The Thin Kids) gallantly relinquished his claim on being the best band in Brisbane and handed over the reins to Velociraptor. The Thin Kids @ The Troubadour

What can I say? Seriously… They were funny as hell, highly entertaining but scored pretty low towards the chance of ever being swooped up by some talent scout and offered a contract… but then, I’m pretty sure that’s the point!

An Interview with Planet Fiction

Planet Fiction are a Brisbane based, self proclaimed ‘Hard Rock’ band who have been out on the local scene for about 2 years building up their fan base and working on their first EP.  There are four of the somewhat mysterious fellows who make one hell of a sound on stage and then contradictingly step off at the end of the set to have a quiet drink in the smokers area looking nonchalant.  Adam is on lead vocals, Paw is on lead guitar, Gruff is on bass and Kelvin works the drums.

I asked Planet Fiction a few questions after seeing them at a gig for the second time and wanting a little more than just photographs.

music for my mood: ???

Ever had one of those songs, that you seem to play over and over and over again without understanding why?  ‘Dog Days are Over’ has found itself pumping through my house at an average of five times a day for the last week.  I have seen a multitude of moods this week but Florence has made herself present through them all… Maybe I am trying to convice myself of something?  I dunno… I like it.

Music for My Mood: Sentimental

This always makes me happy.  Maybe it’s my secretly obsessive love for Maynard, maybe it’s a whole heap of memories spinning rapidly around my head vowing never to be lost?  Either way it’s obviously not the lyrics.

Astral Aliens @ Club 299

Rock band Astral Aliens headlined at heavy metal Club 299 over the weekend.  The band are doing a home tour “Direct from L.A.” after taking up residence in California in late 2007.  The Aussie band (with an American lead guitarist) rocked the club hard on Friday night.

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis @ The Zoo

Kitty & Daisy open with an instrument free duet – incredible.

Brisbane was lucky enough to be graced by the presence of British band Kitty, Daisy and Lewis on Sunday 13th December.  Playing at The Zoo, the band which comprises of siblings Kitty, Daisy, Lewis and their parents, blew the packed venue away with an outstanding live performance.
